Despite a serious injury to Andy Brown, Bicester came through to win 4-0.

Bicester 4 - 0 Sonning 2s

Bicester returned to winning ways with a convincing 4-0 win against Sonning on Saturday at The Cooper School.

Both teams started well in an open first twenty minutes and Sonning nearly scored with their opening short corner. A backstick on the line closely followed by a Bicester foot led to some confusion as to if a penalty stroke should be awarded. After some consultation, the umpires decided not to award the stroke and the game continued to pick up pace.

The main event of the game occurred after about twenty minutes when Bicester centre-midfielder and coach Andy Brown went down following a firm tackle with a dislocated shoulder, leading to a half an hour delay.

Following the delay, Bicester rallied together to play for their injured coach and soon had the lead. Benjamin Kirk opened the scoring after a break-down in play at a short-corner gave him time in the D to smash the ball into the corner of the goal. They soon doubled their lead with a superb team goal which saw Kirk eventually get down the left hand sideline and square the ball to the energetic Stuart Lock to apply the finish. Bicester then secured a third before the end of the half, as some outstanding work down the right from Daniel Round and Jordan Chester saw Alex Wilson released with space to run in the 23. His piercing run soon found him have space at the top of the D, and he finished brilliantly with a well taken flick into the bottom corner to give Bicester a 3-0 lead at the break.

The second half went the same way as the first, as Bicester continued to press and were unfortunate not to score more than one goal in the second period. That goal came with a strong flick from Benjamin Kirk from a short corner to secure the 4-0 victory for Bicester.

Bicester moved back up to third place with the win and now travel to table-toppers Witney next week looking to gain another victory.
