Bicester win 6-1 away to OMT in opening match

OMT 1 - 6 Bicester (Adam Drewitt 3, Jonny Reid 2, Will Hartley)

Bicester began the season in fine style with a comfortable and dominant win against OMT.

Adam Drewitt was the star with a well taken hat-trick but it was a hard-working team performance which led to the victory. Bicester started strongly and some fine work by Ian Oak in the middle and a lovely run by Will Hartley led to the first goal as Jonny Reid was left with a simple finish. Drewitt then began his goal-glut as he scored two similar goals in a few minutes. The first was following some fine play by Ian Oak down the line and the second was after a nice touch by Will Hartley in the middle. Bicester thus went into the break 3-1 up, after OMT managed to pull one back with a superb reverse stick finish that Nathan Elliott could do nothing about.

Cj Birtles, Stu Goodacre and the dominant Daniel Round worked well alongside Elliott to keep Bicester solid at the back and this strong defensive performance led to Bicester extending their lead in the second half. A strong press, instigated by the master-tactician, Andy Brown, saw OMT gift Jonny Reid the ball near the top of the D, leading to a well hit shot high into the goal to give Bicester a fourth. Drewitt then managed to get his hat-trick after some fine work from debutant Charlie Chalky-Maber and the outstanding Benjamin Kirk released Oak in space in the D. His powerful shot was heading high towards the goal but it was Drewitt's decisive deflected touch that carried the ball into the top corner of the net. Will Hartley then added gloss to the performance as he finished off a superb team goal with a well placed finish after more good work from Andy Brown and Ben Kirk in the middle.

The only mar to the game was a nasty eye injury to the energetic Stuart Lock. Fortunately, following a very kind OMT supporter being able to take him to A&E, he was stitched up and returned to Bicester in time for bed.

Bicester host West Hampstead 3s next week at The Cooper School as they look to continue their solid start to the season.
