Oxford Hawks win 6-2 in pre-season friendly

Oxford Hawks 6 - 2 Bicester (Jonny Reid, David Delamore-Sutcliffe)

Bicester were outclassed at Oxford Hawks in a frustrating game for the men in green.

Oxford Hawks dominated the majority of the game and in a clinical performance, scored six well-worked goals, including a lovely reverse stick strike to round the game off. Being a pre-season game, the positives are another 70 minutes in the legs, a well worked short corner goal and a clear marker for where we need to improve to be competitive this season.

With Ian Oak, Adam Drewitt, Rob Blackie, James Webb, Jeffrey Elliott, David Delamore-Sutcliffe and CJ Birtles all having their first run outs of the season, the visitors managed to have a few good spells in a game lacking in quality from Bicester. Benjamin Kirk had some nice runs, Jeffrey Elliott ran tirelessly up front and Jordan Chester again looked strong in midfield. At the back it was a busy (and thus never easy) time for the defence with Nathan Elliott being called on numerous times to make solid saves.

The positives came with Bicester taking the few chances they managed to fashion. Some good work down the left from Jeffrey Elliott saw him release Jonny Reid in space in the D, and after beating one defender, he managed to squeeze the ball into the bottom corner for a consolation goal in the second half. Bicester then managed to both win, and score, their first short corner of pre-season, which, with a well-worked move, David Delamore-Sutcliffe finished to add another positive to an otherwise disappointing game.

With it only being pre-season, it's fortunately a good lesson and nothing else for this Bicester team. They now play Leighton Buzzard in their final game of pre-season, looking to put in a good performance before the season proper begins.
