With our captain, Sheryl, back at the helm for the first home game of the season, Bicester were keen to impress. The game started strong with lots of movement and pressure, particularly amongst the hard-working midline, kept in check by Hannah.
The pressure was rewarded by an expert (un)intentional airbound ball towards the D from Olah which connected with Irish's reverse stick midair and was slotted past the keeper who could only look on in awe. It seemed too good to be true...and soon was, as the lone umpire (after a long pause) claimed Irish was outside the circle and the goal was disallowed. Stand-in umpire, JR, arrived to help just 5 minutes too late.
With frustration and anger in their eyes, Bicester fought back and were unlucky not to score again. However, Slough realised they had to up their game and piled the pressure on, but Ali and George wouldn't let them find the backboard.
With the scoreline 0-0 at half time, Bicester continued the fight but were unable to send the ball on target.
With both teams battling to the end, Slough were the lucky ones, rewarded with a scrappy goal after multiple saves from Jo and her team on the battle line.
With only a few minutes left, Bicester couldn't level the scoreline and it finished 1-0 to Slough. It was an unlucky game for Bicester who deserved a very different final score.
