With our newly elected captain sipping cocktails on holiday for the opening game of the season, Bicester ladies 1's set off to Thame hoping to prove themselves in a new league.
The team gelled well with lots of new players finding their feet and pressed hard early on. The reward was a goal mid-way through the first half from Hannah Newell (Granda owes you a pound) with a rebound shot slotted past the keeper. Thame's feathers were ruffled and they fought back but Jo and her crew expertly held them off and Bicester finished the first half on a high.
Thame pushed hard in the second half and were rewarded with an early goal but Bicester didn't drop their heads and continued their attack with some penalty corners awarded which were unlucky not to be converted.
Dame of the game went to Ashley for her relentless pressuring (and also possibly the green card) but the whole team played well and showed some excellent potential to develop as we move forward into the season.
Thanks to all the girls for their sterling effort and Mrs Gunn for her excellent substitute management skills.
Final score - 1:1
Scorer: Hannah Newell
Dame of the Game - Ashley Foote
