4 Festivals in a Row
U10s win for the fourth time
“On Sunday the U10 Team 1 took part in the Banbury Festival held at Bloxham School.
After being delayed for an hour due to the earlier frost on the pitch we started brightly against Wallingford. Charlie scored our first goal, but it was very quickly cancelled out by Wallingford on the break. However our determination to win continued from the previous Oxford Festival and Kieran added a well-deserved second goal to win 2-1.
Next we played Oxford and after a very tough match, Charlie scored our only goal to come out 1-0 winners.
Up next were the hosts Banbury and we quickly took control with goals from Kieran and Charlie, to win 2-0.
Our fourth match was against a very organised Thame team, and although we did most of the attacking, we conceded the only goal on the counter break. A harsh lesson in that we all need to defend wherever we are on the pitch.
Finally we needed a draw or win against Oxford Hawks to win our group. We were very determined to not lose this match, and our attacking skills allowed us to score firstly with Charlie (his fourth of the day). Then through a one touch attack from mid field we scored again with Kieran slotting the ball in the goal with a wonderful one touch finish. A great example of how this team can score some wonderful goals.
Overall we won 4 out of 5 matches and scored 7 and conceding 2. Well done to all the players in the team who all played their part. (Ben, Claydon, Kieran, Charlie, Rosie, George W, Bella, Tom S and Hannah.”
The U10 Team 2 meanwhile dominated completely from start to finish winning all five games and not conceeding anything
They won all 5 of their games at the Banbury Festival. They scored 18 goals and conceded none, with victories over Oxford (4-0), Witney (2-0), Wallingford (4-0). Banbury (4-0) & Oxford Hawks (4-0). Goalscorers were Isaac Findlay with 10 (including two hatricks), George Birtles, 4 (two from Penalty Corner first shots), George Mallam ,3, and Flora McCullough with her first goal.
All this despite being the only team in the group not having a goalkeeper, the defence coped comfortably with the opposition attacks and allowed the midfield to drive wide and forward to provide great service to the front line who found the goal with consummate ease.
The winning squad :-
Freddie Clark, Flora McCullough, Georgia Howlett, George Birtles, George Mallam, Harry Tynan, Harry Innes, Isaac Findlay, Jo Parker and Molly Tucker.
Overall another excellent showing by the Bicester U10s and two very happy coaches looking forward to the second half of the season.
