Another disappointing result
Ladies 1s have another disappointing result but some showing some promise
As the season nears the mid-point and with only one win under their belt, the ladies 1s headed off to Wallingford with yet another new line up of players.
Both teams were quite evenly matched and there was plenty of play around the pitch. Showing improving teamwork and communication, there were some accurate one-two passes helping Bicester move the ball forward and giving us some potential to put our stamp on the game. Unluckily, Wallingford were awarded a few short corners where they utilised the rebound balls, initially saved by Jo, and grabbed 2 goals in the first half. The Bicester defenders fought hard to keep the score low with some other goal line balls being cleared by Olah and Sam.
As the second half continued Bicester fought back and managed to score from a short corner (eyeing the slow defenders response, Irish yelled to Charlie "just smack it"). Turns out that does the trick.
Some further short corners allowed Wallingford to add another 2 goals to their tally (and a disallowed goal) but the goal of the match came from open play when a deflected ball off Charlie's stick headed high into the net, which shocked the goalie and the goal-scorer!
Two special mentions this week go to Olah for her green card (for the stick tackle against her!?) and Nikki who the umpire had to helpfully remind was "not at a lumberjack convention"!
It was tough that the scoreline ended as it did because Bicester showed more promise this week and if there had been a few extra minutes on the clock might have added on another goal or two.
Final score: Wallingford 4 : 2 Bicester
Scorer: Charlie Humphreys (2)
Dame of the Game: Amy Olah
Tit of the Team: Amy Olah
