Fantastic Foxcubs!!!

On Sunday 06 February 2011 three teams of Junior players from Bicester HC travelled to Witney ATP to play in the Witney mini hockey festival, for many - and this includes their parents- this was to be their first fixture. The emphasis of this festival was to play as much hockey as possible, in the time allowed and for the young players to develop their match playing skills.

Under 8's

Team list: Tom Ward, Chloe Everest, Joseph Clark, Jason Blunsdon, Lewis Sullivan, Luca Eagleton, Olivia Paoli, Sean Lock and William Grainge.

The U8's play as a mixed 5 a-side team on a quarter pitch for 10 - 12 minutes, without goal keepers. These very young players from the first pushback moved the ball, passed to each other, attacked the opposition’s goal and defended their own scoring zone & goal with the utmost determination. Their efforts and teamwork were soon rewarded with goals by Joseph Clark aided by Sean Lock and Luca Eagleton. In defence Jason Blunsdon cleared a direct shot away from the Bicester goal, with Tom and William sending the ball forward into the oppositions half. Chloe, Lewis and Olivia all played their part in many attacking and defending moves. These amazing players provided a morning of very exciting and at times nail biting hockey. Well done to you all.

Under 10's

Team list: Charlotte Foote (GK), Daniel Evans, Ellie Madden, Emma Keen, Evie O'Connell, Freya Wilson, Harry Jackson, Luc Paoli, Pippa Grainge and Tansy Hammond.

The U10's play as a mixed 7 a-side team on a half pitch for 12 minutes with a fully kitted goal keeper and is played with more competitiveness. Proudly wearing their new team shirts, big smiles and great determination they faced their first opponents, after a slow start they soon settled into creating many excellent passes sending the ball up the wings, finding the sticks of Dan & Freya. Thanks to their fast legs they broke away from the opposition’s defenders and SCORED!!!!!! The cheers from the parents, coaches and team mates I am sure could be heard all over Oxfordshire. At the other end Charlotte Foote the U10 goal keeper - in only her second fixture as GK - defended her goal brilliantly making several long kick clearances. Ellie, Emma, Evie, Harry, Luc, Pippa and Tansy alternated their field positions and showing remarkable skill moved the ball around the field to create goal scoring opportunities and defensive tactics to keep the ball out of their scoring zone. It was a privilege to be witness all their hard work and join them in their victories - thank you to you all.

Under 12's

Team list: Olivia Clark (GK), Charlotte Smith, Amber Jackson, Maisy Fincham, Imogen Ward, Kimberley Blunsdon, Jennie Proctor, James Keen and Julia Green.

In the U12's a greater emphasis is put on the competitiveness of the game, they play 7 a-side mixed teams, on a half pitch for 12 - 15 minutes, with fully kitted goal keepers. The U12's faced their opponents with some nervousness, but no less determination than that of their younger team mates. Olivia (GK) made several spectacular saves from her goal line and aided by the defenders of Imogen, Kimberley, Maisy and Charlotte protected the goal area even when faced with short corners. Amber, Julia, James and Jennie used their ever developing hockey skills to attack & defend the mid field forcing  their opponents into their own end, but were very unfortunate to come away without any goals scored. The courage and determination of the U12's throughout the afternoon is a great credit to themselves and to Bicester HC. Extremely well done to you all.

Finally a huge thank you to all the coaches, parents, supporters and of course the hockey players themselves for an incredible festival and a wonderful way to spend a cold & windy Sunday.
