Game of two halves
Initially showing signs of potential, Bicester were unable to hold their nerve
Bicester had to lift their heads and pull together after last weeks result and after a delayed start due to an injury in the preceding game, we were ready to take on a strong Banbury side.
Determined to keep Banbury under control, Bicester played hard with end to end hockey and plenty of great play. The defence stayed solid with Olah and Sam distributing some lovely balls towards the midfields. Bea played well in the central position despite her reservations and Shannon worked up a sweat with plenty of running. Charlie was a great asset to the team and got a couple of shots off in the attacking circle - unfortunately they were saved!
Bicester definitely looked like a different team from last week and seemed like they might have been on course for a positive result.
There were also some areas to work on in the second half, so after encouragement to raise our voices and keep the teamwork going, we were off again for the final 35 minutes.
It was a pity that Banbury had the same ideas and they lifted their game, grabbing the first goal of the match after a few minutes. Bicester heads dropped and we started to lose our way a little which Banbury took advantage of and gained some confidence with further goals. Bicester continued to work hard and were aiming to claw back a goal or two; Charlie's dive to the back post being the best chance which she was unlucky not to score.
As the final whistle blew, the disappointing score of 0-6 was a tough blow to a team who definitely looked like a much stronger side initially.
Final score: Bicester 0 - 6 Banbury
Dame of the Game: Amy Olah & Shannon Cameron
Tit of the Team: Irish (Alison Haik)
