Fox Cubs Newsletter April 2009

Dear Parents, Players and Coaches,

As the season is nearly drawing to an end I just wanted to give you some dates for your diaries and some news about Bicester Hockey Club.

Parents v Kids.

This season's last training session will be on Sunday 5th April. We will be having Parents v Kids at approx 10.30 -1130. (So parents get practising!!) On this day we also plan to do the Awards ceremony. There will also be cakes and refreshments available.

I will also be doing an Easter Egg Raffle as well so if parents could donate an Easter egg and buy raffle tickets I would appreciate it.

Bicester Hockey Clubs Welfare Officer

Dear Fox cubs

I would like to introduce myself to you as Bicester Hockey Club’s (BHC) Welfare Officer. This means that I will be responsible for ensuring that you are all treated how you would want to be by the Coaches, and any other adult with whom you may have contact at the Club.

My own children have been playing hockey at Bicester for 5 years and Caitlin is currently training with the youngest group so I can usually be found at that end of the pitch.

Everyone at BHC wants you to enjoy playing hockey and to have fun so if you have any worries or concerns about how you are spoken too, being treated etc please come and talk to me about it or ask your parents to. If you don’t want to talk to me in person I may be contacted via the web site.

Obviously I hope that you don’t have many concerns and that you enjoy training and playing but please do come and find me if you are worried about anything at all.

Nicola Laverick

Dear Parents,

For those of you who don’t know me I’ve been associated with Fox cubs through my children for just over 5 years and know that they have enjoyed playing for the club very much – and between them have played at every Junior level the club offers. I am currently training to teach secondary maths and so would hope that the children find me approachable.

If the children, or yourselves, have any concerns regarding their welfare during training or matches please do let me, Andy or Marcia know about them so that we can deal with them promptly.

Policies etc regarding best practice, safeguarding children, etc are available via the clubs website.

Yours faithfully

Nicola Laverick

Umpire Opportunities

We hope in the new season to be able to offer any Foxcubs a basic umpiring course. If any Foxcub is interested please let me know.

Leadership

The Club is keen to support any Foxcub player in Leadership opportunities in which they may be involved in. If any Foxcub is doing D of E or CSLA(Community Sports Leaders Award) we can supply references or give support if necessary, they only have to ask. We are hoping to supply a Leadership Course with Banbury Hockey Club in the future again if you are interested let me know.

When they move to Senior Hockey within the club we encourage them to come back on a Sunday morning to help with Foxcubs.

Clubs First

During this season we have once again been working towards a Clubs First Application. It is possible that an assessor may visit one Sunday morning to assess us. In preparation for this would you all please look at the hockey club website and read up on all the hockey rules. We have enclosed rules for Parents and Players with this newsletter.

Recruitment Day/Fun day

We are planning to hold a recruitment day on Tuesday 7th April 10.00 -16.00 at Cooper School. This day is designed to be a taster session to introduce children to Hockey so they can find out what hockey is all about and see what fun hockey is. This day is not for current member of Foxcubs unless there are any parents or Year 8 or 9 children that can help on the day. We would appreciate any help that can be given. The day will be FREE; children will just need to bring lunch and plenty of drinks. This is a great opportunity for Bicester Hockey Club to attract new players so please spread the word; we want to make this day as much as a success as possible. (WE NEED NEW PLAYERS.) They will need to register their details with me first which can be done at www.bicesterhockeyclub.org.uk and click on to junior co-ordinator link. There will also be a second day on September 6th 10.00-13.00 which will cost £5.00.

AGM.

The AGM will be held on Monday 11th May @ 20.00 at the White Horse Pub near Copper School.

Daniel Round who has been Chair Person for 3 years will be stepping down. If anyone is interested in any positions within the committee there are job descriptions available on the website.

You may be saddened to learn that the club has lost one of its most influential members- Des Jenkins. Des was with Bicester Hockey Club for over 30 years many as Club Captain. He passed away at the weekend. His funeral will be held at Banbury crematorium @15.00 on Monday 9th March.

Next Season

We will be back on September 13th @10.00- 12.00 for training as normal.

I would just to say thank-you to the Coaches who give up their valuable time on a Sunday morning whatever the weather to pass on their skills and knowledge to the juniors.

If you have questions or comments about anything on the newsletter please contact me at www.bicesterhockeyclub.org.uk.

Don’t forget if you know of anyone interested in taking part or helping on 8th April please get them to get in touch.
