Ames Thoughts16th November 2009 Only 3 more league matches till we're half way through - no idea where the saturdays have gone!! So we won saturday, which was a good result. 2 goals from short corners so Mark's training a couple of weeks ago has paid off and we are getting more confident on shorts with every match. The 'youth policy' in the Ladies 2nd XI are doing great, they are attending training, listening on saturdays and trying to put every tincy bit of info that they are learning into practice. As they can only get better as the season goes on i'm sure that they will be knocking on the Ladies 1st XI door in the not too distant future. We go to City of Oxford on saturday with a positive outlook, and not just cos it's Becki's birthday - yippie.

4th November 2009 The last few weeks have been very tough for the Ladies 2nd XI off the pitch. I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone for all their messages of support, just knowing your thinking about us is a help and to all the girls that have stepped up on Saturday's and got on with it big kisses.

WE WON WE WON WE WON WE WON WE WON WE WON WE WON WE WON WE WON WE WON WE WON WE WON – just in case you didn’t receive the new flash text straight after the game on Saturday! Felt much more relaxed before the match on Saturday, don’t know if it’s because mum has started zimmering with the physio or whether I realised that if I ask the team to give 120% during the match and they do everything will come together. So I asked them to give 120% during the match and score more goals than Banbury. They all gave 120% and they scored more goals than Banbury – can’t really ask for more than that!!! Ames x p.s. we won we won we won we won we won we won we won we won we won p.p.s I thinking I’m beginning to enjoy this x x x x
Later in September 2009
So we’ve had our first league game, which we some how managed to draw!!! We went 1 up in the first half, but Bracknell came back in the 2nd half. They hit the post twice, Liz saved off the line and the defence generally ran round like headless chickens for most of the 2nd half but we got there in the end and most definitely deserved our 1 point. Having managed to vaguely arrange my team, I’d sent half of them the wrong postcode (but they found it) and lost one shin pad in the changing rooms, only to discover I’d thrown my green socks on top of it! Maybe I shall have to get more organised and rush less – ha ha ha I hear you say ‘rushing less and Ames’ are not words that one would put in the same sentence but you never know we may some pigs over Coopers School this season………………………. Off to bake cakes for Saturday Ames x
Sept 09 Being new to captaining is going to be a challenge for me and I’m sure that being captained by me is going to be a challenge for the Ladies 2XI – I just hope they like me!
So I thought I’d clarify a few points, most of which are common knowledge within the club, but anyway:
1. I love it when a training exercise comes together in a match, it’s just so satisfying J
2. I can’t abide lack of effort, as it means the rest of your team has to work extra hard!
3. I’ll always have a Bombay and Tonic J
4. Tequila makes me vomit!
See you at the White Horse sometime, if not pitch side
